The company for which I work gave us these huge unbrellas for Christmas. We carry our laptops with us when we see clients so the large unbrella will provide great protection for us and our equipment when it rains.
Throughout the book of Psalms we find verses referring to God as a refuge, a shelter, a protection against enemies.
Psalm 61 is a prayer of David to God. Verse 4 says, “I long to dwell in Your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.”
God’s protection is like a canopy over us and a hedge around us. He holds us in His loving arms, keeping us from Satan’s reach.
His Holy Spirit is like our umbrella keeping us safe. The Spirit helps us make the right choices. Of course, we can choose not to listen to His leading just like we can choose not to use an umbrella when it’s raining. However, when that happens we usually end up paying the consequences for not using the protection provided for us.
The next time you use an umbrella to protect you from the rain, think of God’s protection covering you everyday. Thank Him each day for His protection and love.
