LAMP OF THE BODY

“Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body also is full of darkness. See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be completely lighted, as when the light of a lamp shines on you.”   (Luke 11:34-36)

What are you taking in each day with your eyes? What are you letting your children take in everyday with their eyes? Is it pornography, violence, hatred, OR love and caring?

What kinds of movies do you watch or books do you read? Are they full of explicit details of violence and sex? There are many, many excellent movies and books available which have exciting, nail biting, romantic plots, without the graphic details (which are not necessary to move a story along).

Check out the video games your kids are playing?  Again, there are plenty of games out there which do not show the graphic blood and guts.

People say reading graphic books, watching violent and sexually explicit movies, playing violent video games aren’t going to hurt you. That’s not true. You take in enough of that sort of  material through your eyes and it begins to permeate your whole body. Pretty soon all that junk starts to feel like normal behavior. You become desensitized to the sex and violence and you starting feeling there is nothing wrong with it. The darkness takes over.

Now is the time for you to go through your house and clean out the trash. Replace it with wholesome, light-giving material. Get rid of the trashy books, movies, video games. Start taking in, through your eyes, the things God wants you to take in so light will fill you. A very good place to start is by reading the Bible daily. As you take in healthy things through your eyes you will notice a change in your body and attitude as well. Give it a try. It will take time. Change does not happen overnight. But hang in there. The light your eyes bring in will make a difference in your life and the lives of your family.
