According to Webster’s Dictionary resurrection is “an act of returning or bringing from death to life.” Roget’s 21st Century Thesaurus lists these words as meaning the same thing: “reappearance, reawakening, rebirth, restoration, resurgence, return to life, revival.” When a business is going under, but gets a boost to start up again we say it was resurrected. An old movie is resurrected from the archives and becomes popular again. Jesus heard his friend Lazarus had died. Jesus went to see Lazarus’ sisters and told Martha her brother would rise again. Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who belives in Me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in Me will never die. . . . ” (John 11:25-26) Jesus was talking about the eternal life which comes only through Him. Paul talks about being dead to sin and alive in Christ in Romans 6, “For we know that our old self was crucified with Him so that the body of sin might be done away with.” (verse 6). “Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him. For we know that since Christ was raised from the dead, He cannot die again; death no longer has mastery over Him. The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God.” (verses 8-10) Do you know this resurrected Christ who gives eternal life?
