Everyone of us at some point in our lives have done something we are very proud of and we let that pride go too far. Then something happened and we were knocked down off our high-horse. Look at the opposite. We did something good, but we were gracious in receiving praise, maybe even gave someone else the credit and ended up being treated special for what we did. Jesus said, “For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.” (Matthew 23:12) If we go around praising ourselves and saying, “Look what I did”, someone is going to come along and cut us down a peg or two, put us in our place. If we are gracious and humble about things we do it is possible someone else will build us up. We are not to go around strutting like peacocks. We are to give God the praise and glory when we’re able to do something good. Then He will bless us in ways we can’t imagine. God will knock us down if we get too boastful and full of ourselves. God will also lift us up if we go about doing good without bringing a lot of attention to ourselves. We are to have a servant attitude. Greatness comes from humility. Jesus was humble. Moses was humble. Billy Graham is humble. Need I say more?
